Internet Speed for Streaming
Find out how much bandwidth Netflix, YouTube, Twitch, and 4K streaming need—and test your download speed.
Video streaming is download-heavy. SD needs about 3 Mbps, HD 5–8 Mbps, and 4K often needs 25 Mbps per stream. Multiple TVs or devices multiply that requirement.
Live streaming to Twitch or YouTube needs solid upload—6–10 Mbps for 1080p and 15+ Mbps for higher-quality broadcasts. Wi-Fi congestion can cause buffering even when your plan advertises high speeds.
Use the download test below to see if your connection can handle your household's streaming habits.
