Frequently Asked Questions
What is network latency?▾
Latency (ping) is the time for a data packet to travel from your device to a server and back. Lower latency means more responsive connections.
What causes high latency?▾
Distance to server, Wi-Fi vs ethernet, VPN usage, network congestion, bufferbloat, and poor routing can all increase latency.
What is bufferbloat?▾
Bufferbloat happens when router buffers are too large, causing latency spikes during downloads. SpeedIP detects this during full speed tests.
